About the role#
Kinsale Insurance offers a paid summer internship for students interested in actuarial science. You will gain hands-on experience in pricing, reserving, and insurance analytics while working with our in-house actuarial team. This is a 10-week program beginning May 24, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Report and analyze key operational metrics.
- Build and modify reports containing policy information.
- Review loss experience across commercial insurance products.
- Develop pricing variables using internal and external data.
- Evaluate economic and statistical trends to support pricing assumptions.
- Project future losses from current policies.
- Communicate results to actuarial colleagues and business leaders.
- Participate in weekly lunch and learns, work with a dedicated mentor, and attend executive meet-and-greets.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a rising junior or senior pursuing a degree in mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, computer science, or another quantitative field.
- Background in statistics, spreadsheets, databases, or statistical software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
- Passed one or more actuarial exams.

- Location: Richmond, Virginia, USA.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Note: A credit check is required as part of the selection process.
