About the role#
This co-op position within the High Voltage Testing (HVST) department offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in the energy sector. Students will work alongside engineers and technologists to support laboratory electrical testing, applied research, and software development projects. The role involves a 12 or 16-month commitment, with a focus on data analysis, instrumentation, and technical reporting.
What you'll do#
- Support the development, testing, and documentation of in-house software used for data analysis, data storage, report generation, and instrumentation control.
- Assist with programming tasks using tools such as Python, MATLAB, JavaScript, and databases.
- Collect, organize, analyze, and visualize engineering and laboratory data.
- Support engineers and technologists with laboratory electrical testing, applied research, and new product-development projects.
- Assist with test setup, data acquisition, equipment automation, and troubleshooting.
- Prepare graphs, technical summaries, software documentation, and draft report content.
- Research relevant engineering methods, technologies, and scientific publications.
- Follow established software-development practices, including version control, testing, validation, and documentation.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled full-time in a post-secondary engineering, computer science, data science, or related program requiring a co-op placement.
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, or another programming language through academic, project, or previous co-op work.
- Foundational knowledge of data analysis, statistics, engineering mathematics, or scientific computing.
- Interest in electrical power systems, engineering software, laboratory testing, or applied research.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Willingness to follow all established laboratory, electrical, and workplace safety procedures.
