About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern at Keck Medicine of USC, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to support clinical operations and patient care. This role involves active participation in medication preparation, distribution, and clinical monitoring within the hospital setting. You will gain exposure to diverse clinical assignments and departmental educational programs while working in a part-time, per diem capacity.
What you'll do#
- Prepare, dispense, and distribute medications while ensuring accurate documentation.
- Manage pharmacy inventory, including restocking, rotating supplies, and maintaining controlled substances inventory via the CII Pyxis system.
- Use Pyxis automated dispensing systems and the MILT4 program for unit-dosing.
- Perform aseptic techniques and chemotherapy preparation.
- Triage pharmacy workflow, including answering calls from health care providers and assisting with medication history.
- Calculate and record charges for pharmacy services.
- Assist with patient counseling under pharmacist supervision.
- Complete daily pharmacy log sheets and participate in clinical assignments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a full-time accredited pharmacy school program.
- Valid Intern Pharmacist license from the California Board of Pharmacy.
- Knowledge of drug trade and generic names, along with pharmacy calculations.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Commitment to excellent customer service.
- Fire Life Safety Training for Los Angeles City (must be obtained within 30 days of hire if not already held).
