About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern at Keck Medicine of USC, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role involves preparing, dispensing, and distributing medications while providing clinical monitoring and drug information to ensure quality patient care. You will gain experience in a hospital setting, participating in clinical assignments and educational programs to support your professional growth.
What you'll do#
- Prepare, dispense, and distribute medications throughout the hospital.
- Perform intravenous admixture and aseptic techniques.
- Operate Pyxis automated dispensing systems, including the management of controlled substances inventory.
- Ensure all medications are properly barcoded.
- Repackage and unit-dose medications using the MILT4 program.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking stock, restocking, and rotating supplies.
- Generate revenue by calculating, recording, and issuing charges.
- Document daily pharmacy log sheets.
- Use technology to triage workflow, including checking medication history and printing labels.
- Assist health care providers with phone calls and triage requests.
- Participate in clinical assignments and department-based educational programs.
- Assist in providing patient counseling under pharmacist supervision.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a full-time accredited pharmacy school program.
- An active Intern Pharmacist license from the California Board of Pharmacy.
- Knowledge of drug trade and generic names, as well as pharmacy calculations.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Excellent customer service behavior.
- Fire Life Safety Training for Los Angeles City (or must obtain within 30 days of hire).
