ADAI Student Externship

About the role#

The ADAI Student Externship offers an opportunity to complete your degree requirement at the Indiana State Fair Dairy Bar. This role provides hands-on experience in the dairy industry through a first-of-its-kind partnership with the American Dairy Association Indiana (ADAI).

What you'll do#

• Complete your degree externship requirement during the 2026 Indiana State Fair.
• Participate in training during July for the grand opening in August.
• Work throughout the fair season, contributing to the operation of a large-scale concession stand.
• Prepare dairy foods and manage tasks related to sanitation, marketing, and customer service.
• Manage large-volume production and calculate shift requirements.
• Delegate tasks to volunteers and work effectively within large teams.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in the Summer HOSP 280 class.
• Proficiency in food knowledge and safety/sanitation guidelines in a production kitchen.
• Ability to make independent decisions and solve complex problems in a high-volume environment.
• Strong verbal communication skills to interact with staff, management, and non-professional food service workers.
• Ability to multitask and perform a wide variety of operational duties.

Location & details#

• Location: Indianapolis, Indiana (Indiana State Fair Grounds).
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Modality: On-site.
• Schedule: Training in July; 48 hours per week from August 7 to August 23 (closed Mondays).
• Compensation: $20 per hour.
• Perks: Season parking permit, daily fair admission, three uniform t-shirts, and free Dairy Bar food.
