About the role#
This internship offers the chance to work with a manufacturer of aerospace and defense electrical connectors. You will join the team in Irvine for the Summer 2027 term, working full-time on a specific harsh environment connector project. You will receive guidance and mentorship from experienced design engineers throughout your time here to ensure a productive experience.
What you'll do#
- Interpret customer requirements and regulatory constraints to develop scopes of work, project hours, and schedules.
- Create preliminary 3D CAD models and present concepts during Preliminary Design Reviews.
- Perform design changes based on team feedback and finalize 2D CAD drawings.
- Collaborate with procurement to select vendors and secure prototypes.
- Create Design Validation Test Plans and provide technical assistance during testing at internal or external labs.
- Interpret test results to determine if further design changes are required.
- Work with Engineering Documentation to release final designs.
- Follow all safety policies, participate in workplace inspections, and assist in developing job safety analyses.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree program (BS, MS, or PhD) in good standing.
- Intent to continue your degree program after the internship ends.
- Experience with CAD software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with basic mechanical and electrical design principles.
- Ability to meet the definition of a U.S. person under ITAR regulations.
- Knowledge of CNC machining, injection molding, and materials like metals, plastics, and rubber is preferred but not required.

- Term: Summer 2027 (May to August).
- Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: Paid position with an hourly range of $22.69 to $33.85.
