Issue One is seeking a Policy Intern for the Technology Reform program for the Fall 2026 semester. This role focuses on the intersection of social media, artificial intelligence, and American democracy. Interns support the team with legislative outreach, policy analysis, and advocacy efforts. This is a paid, part-time position requiring 20-30 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on technology and democracy topics, including AI governance, data privacy, and online safety.
- Monitor federal and state legislation, regulatory developments, and relevant news.
- Synthesize complex policy and legislative materials into clear summaries for internal and external use.
- Support legislative outreach and advocacy efforts by preparing materials for meetings with policymakers and stakeholders.
- Maintain internal trackers and databases related to technology policy and corporate conduct.
- Assist the team in turning policy priorities into campaign actions and digital content.
What you'll need#
- Demonstrated interest in democracy, technology policy, or political advocacy.
- Strong research skills with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience or coursework in fields such as Political Science, Public Health, Communications, Journalism, or Business Administration.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to shifting program priorities.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC. A hybrid work schedule is available, with a preference for on-site presence in the Washington office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Remote options are available for residents of specific states where the organization is formally established.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September through December).
- Compensation: $18.40 per hour.
