Issue One is seeking a Communications Intern to assist in amplifying our digital and traditional media presence. This role offers hands-on experience in bipartisan advocacy, communications strategy, and messaging tactics. You will work closely with our Digital Content and Media Relations teams to engage with current news cycles and support our mission to strengthen democracy.
What you'll do#
- Monitor social media channels to identify trending topics and opportunities.
- Write content and schedule posts across platforms including X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky using Sprout Social.
- Film and edit short-form vertical video content.
- Assist in expanding our digital presence through engagement with followers and peer organizations.
- Support the drafting of press releases and media quotes.
- Use Muck Rack to distribute releases to reporters and maintain media contact lists.
- Identify and research reporters covering our key issue areas.
What you'll need#
- Demonstrated interest in democracy, politics, and social media.
- A passion for content production and using social media for positive impact.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- A self-starter mindset with the ability to generate ideas and adapt to new projects.
- A commitment to working across party lines to strengthen democracy.
- Preferred majors include Communications, Political Science, Media Studies, Journalism, Business Administration, or Public Health.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 14 – December 18).
- Compensation: $18.40 per hour.
- Commitment: 15–20 hours per week.
- Modality: Hybrid. Washington, DC-based interns are encouraged to work on-site on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Remote work is available for residents of California, Colorado, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, or Virginia.
