About the role#
IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern for a 10-12 week program during Summer 2027. Based in New York, this full-time, hybrid position offers the chance to work alongside experienced engineers on mechanical systems for hospitality, mixed-use, and commercial building projects. You will contribute to real project work, support project documentation, and collaborate across disciplines to meet client goals.
What you'll do#
- Assist with design tasks for discipline systems according to code and company standards.
- Research commercially available equipment.
- Maintain project design notebooks and documentation for permanent record files.
- Coordinate design and schedules with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, and electrical teams.
- Document design decisions, meeting notes, and client instructions.
- Monitor project design progress and review documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and issue addendum information.
- Conduct periodic job site observations as required by contract agreements.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
- A strong interest in design consulting.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with AutoCAD or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- Prior internship experience in building design consulting is preferred.
