About the role#
IMEG is hiring a Fire Protection Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 program in New York, New York. This is a 10 to 12 week full-time, paid internship. You will work alongside experienced engineers and consultants on active projects within the hospitality, commercial, and aviation sectors. This role is a hybrid position.
What you'll do#
- Assist with fire protection system design in accordance with code and company standards.
- Research commercially available equipment and supporting resources.
- Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and document permanent record files.
- Coordinate design and scheduling with other disciplines.
- Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions.
- Monitor project design progress and review documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and issue addendum information.
- Conduct periodic job site observations.
What you'll need#
- Completed at least 2 years toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field.
- Strong interest in design consulting.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Skills in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
- Ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written formats.
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry is preferred.
