About the role#
The Field Engineer Intern supports construction project sites to help meet schedule and budget goals. You will spend most of your time in the field at an assigned project, with approximately two weeks at the corporate office in Colwich, Kansas, working with the Project Management Group.
What you'll do#
- Track man hour reports and update procurement logs.
- Monitor project progress by percentage for concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and electrical trades.
- Assist with material requisitions and the ordering of miscellaneous materials.
- Attend project and vendor meetings to learn about execution priorities and cost negotiation.
- Help the Project Manager or site management with schedule updates.
- Assist the Field Engineer or contractors with unloading and staging equipment.
- Distribute equipment and materials to contractors.
- Study the ethanol production process and specific project requirements.
- Assist with change order tracking, extra work, and re-work authorization forms while estimating potential financial impacts.
- Support the Site Superintendent and Electrical Superintendent in overseeing contractors.
- Walk down lines with P&IDs to verify installations.
- Verify concrete and soil compaction tests, concrete layouts, structural steel components, and equipment orientations against specifications and prints.
- Perform safety walks to identify violations and ensure daily adherence to safety policies.
- Handle tasks related to estimating, logistics, and understanding contract documents.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a college program related to Construction Management, Construction Science, or a related technical field.
- Proficiency with MS Office products.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with efficiency and accuracy.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with senior management and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers.
- Commitment to honesty, integrity, and attention to detail.
