About the role#
The Retail Store Leadership Intern program provides hands-on training at a designated store location. You will work alongside an assigned mentor to gain experience across various departments, including perishables, store operations, and human resources. This role offers an opportunity to learn the day-to-day functions of a retail operation, such as merchandising, cash accountability, food safety, and labor scheduling. You will apply your academic coursework in a real-world setting to build foundational skills for your career.
What you'll do#
- Provide prompt, friendly customer service and maintain a positive, team-oriented atmosphere.
- Assist management in determining pricing, product blends, and shelf allocation for profitability.
- Help establish promotional displays and ensure product quality and quantities meet customer demand.
- Use store hardware and software technology to support daily operations.
- Assist in forecasting and reviewing store labor schedules.
- Replenish shelf products and construct displays.
- Work with cash registers and assist in all areas of the store as needed.
- Handle confidential information, including pricing, sales, and wages, with discretion.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or equivalent experience.
- A degree in an applicable field, such as Business Administration or Operations Management.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
- Ability to perform accurate arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to interview others to obtain information and provide clear direction.
- Ability to work effectively in a retail environment.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, part-time internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is on-site at various locations across Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, South Dakota, Kansas, Illinois, and Nebraska.
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
