About the role#
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and systems across active product development programs. You will work alongside senior engineers, cross-functional partners, and technicians to prototype concepts, troubleshoot issues, and improve product performance. This role provides hands-on experience with real engineering challenges and exposure to the full product development lifecycle.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the design, modification, and identification of commercial items like robotics, mechanisms, fluidics components, and mechanical subassemblies.
- Perform analyses and experiments to evaluate products, designs, or processes using mathematical techniques, specialized software, FEA, and tolerance stack-up.
- Produce 3D CAD part files, assemblies, and associated drawings.
- Build and evaluate engineering prototypes.
- Prepare engineering specifications, procedures, and technical documentation for reports and proposals.
- Conduct lab and field testing for new or existing applications.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent major, with at least one year of the program completed.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks preferred.
- Practical experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack analysis.
- A working understanding of design for manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, welding, casting, thermoforming, and injection molding.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
