About the role#
The Prefab Engineering Intern supports design and process engineering for prefabricated electrical assemblies. This role operates within the prefab shop and blends engineering with manufacturing. You will gain hands-on experience with how modular electrical assemblies are designed, built, quality-checked, and shipped to job sites. This is a paid, 10 to 12 week summer internship.
What you'll do#
- Assist with design and drafting of prefabricated assemblies like racks, skids, and modular units.
- Support bill of materials (BOM) creation and revisions.
- Support process improvement initiatives in the prefab shop.
- Assist with quality control checks on assemblies before shipment.
- Help coordinate shop layout and workflow efficiency projects.
- Support production scheduling and tracking.
- Work with Estimating, BIM/VDC, and Field Operations to ensure designs align with field installation needs.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing and production processes.
- Comfortable working in a shop or production environment.
- Strong problem-solving and process-improvement mindset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- CAD experience is a plus, including exposure to software like AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks.
- Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodology.
- Interest in modular or prefabricated construction methods.
