About the role#
The Controls & Low-Voltage Systems Intern supports the design and coordination of building automation, security, and network infrastructure. You will work alongside the BIM/VDC team to bridge the gap between IT and construction. This role provides direct exposure to how these systems are designed, coordinated, and installed on commercial and mission-critical projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist with low-voltage system layouts, including security, access control, AV, and building automation.
- Support network infrastructure planning for job sites.
- Help with clash detection and coordination models for low-voltage and controls scope.
- Update models and revisions as design changes occur.
- Support OT/IT integration efforts and document controls sequences and points lists.
- Visit project sites to observe low-voltage installation and commissioning activities.
- Complete a capstone project to present to department and executive leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts like IP addressing and protocols.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and with field teams.
- Familiarity with BIM software such as Revit or Navisworks is preferred.
- Exposure to building automation systems or controls programming is a plus.
- Interest in construction technology or mission-critical projects is preferred.
