About the role#
The Pharmacy Intern supports hospital operations by assisting in the preparation and delivery of medications. This per diem position requires direct supervision by a licensed pharmacist and offers exposure to clinical pharmacy practice in an inpatient setting. No previous hospital pharmacy experience is required.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and deliver medications, including unit dose cart filling and stocking medications from wholesalers.
- Perform IV admixture preparation, including compounding and mixing, following the completion of required education and testing.
- Restock Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) on nursing units.
- Round with clinical pharmacists on ICU patients.
- Participate in the medication reconciliation process and report adverse drug reactions.
- Provide medication education to patients in one-on-one or group settings.
- Prepare new drug write-ups for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee.
- Assist in the delivery of medications to nursing units and offsite locations, including the Outpatient Cancer Treatment Center and Corning Surgical Center.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma.
- Current enrollment in a College of Pharmacy.
- Eligibility for and possession of a New York State Pharmacy Intern Permit.
