About the role#
The Pharmacy Intern supports the daily operations of the retail pharmacy at Guthrie. This per diem role provides hands-on experience in hospital pharmacy settings, including medication preparation, patient rounding, and clinical documentation. Interns work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and deliver medications to nursing units and offsite locations.
- Perform IV admixture preparation and compounding after completing required safety training and testing.
- Restock automated dispensing cabinets and pharmacy inventory.
- Participate in the medication reconciliation process.
- Round with clinical pharmacists on ICU patients.
- Provide medication education to patients in one-on-one or group settings.
- Document adverse drug reactions and prepare new drug write-ups for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma.
- Current enrollment in a College of Pharmacy.
- Eligibility for a New York State Pharmacy Intern Permit.
- Possession of a New York State Pharmacy Intern Permit.
- No previous hospital pharmacy experience is required.
