    About the role#

    The Economist Intern will gain an understanding of the functions and responsibilities within Alberta's economic ministries. Working with guidance from senior economists, managers, and directors, this role supports the Labour Market Evidence (LMI) Unit by providing reliable data and analysis to inform government decision-making and policy development.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct research on critical or emerging labour market topics, including defining scope and objectives.
    • Perform extensive literature reviews and identify necessary data sources.
    • Analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative economic data from multiple sources.
    • Prepare written and oral interpretations of complex information for both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Contribute to briefing notes, information requests, and presentations for branch leadership.
    • Support the maintenance of current knowledge regarding academic literature and economic trends.
    • Collaborate with department representatives and subject matter experts on joint projects and information sharing.

    What you'll need#

    • University graduation in a related field (Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or Business Administration).
    • Current enrollment in or recent completion of a graduate degree program in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or a related field is considered an asset.
    • Foundational knowledge of Statistics and Econometrics.
    • Proficiency in coding languages such as R, Python, or SQL.
    • Experience with data visualization tools including PowerBI, Tableau, R Shiny, or Looker.
    • Strong analytical, interpretive, and evaluative thinking skills.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
    • Term: Summer 2026 (6-month temporary position).
    • Schedule: Full-time, 36.25 hours per week.
    • Modality: On-site.
