About the role#
GlobalFoundries is looking for a student to join the Tapeout Operations team for the Summer 2027 term. This role focuses on systems and process engineering within the semiconductor design and manufacturing flow. You will work on process optimization, data analysis, and automation projects designed to improve tapeout efficiency and quality. You will have the chance to work with EDA tools and gain exposure to advanced manufacturing processes.
What you'll do#
- Document and analyze existing tapeout workflows and process steps.
- Support the development of automation scripts and tools for data handling, job submission, and mask release execution in Linux and web-based environments.
- Collect and analyze process metrics to identify bottlenecks and propose scalable improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, IT, and EDA stakeholders.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for tapeout issues.
- Maintain and update process documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Follow all safety, health, and security programs while performing your work.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as at least a sophomore in a Bachelor's or Master's program for Systems, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
- A minimum 3.0 overall GPA and good academic standing.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work at least 40 hours per week on-site.
- Preferred skills include experience with Linux/Unix environments, scripting languages like Python or Shell, and data analysis tools like Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with version control systems, Lean or Six Sigma methodologies, and semiconductor manufacturing processes is helpful.
- Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills are preferred.
