About the role#
Ginkgo Bioworks is deploying a fleet of Reconfigurable Automation Cells, which are modular robotic units that form an autonomous lab. As an Automation Scientist Intern, you will be the hands-on force behind this fleet. You will learn to load, operate, and troubleshoot protocol runs on advanced lab hardware to support our autonomous operations.
What you'll do#
- Operate and maintain a system of Reconfigurable Automation Cells.
- Queue and submit programmatically-generated protocols.
- Monitor for errors and conduct remote or on-site recovery.
- Modify or write new protocols for the automation system.
- Prepare and onboard reagents and consumables.
- Execute and monitor molecular and cell biology scientific workflows.
- Take down and offboard used plates from completed workflows.
- Safely dispose of used plates.
What you'll need#
- Some skills in coding, biology, or computational biology.
- An automation-forward mindset and a desire to make robotic systems run smoother.
- A willingness to do what is necessary to ensure workflows run successfully.
- An interest in communications, marketing, social media, or short form video is a bonus.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
- The position is on-site, five days per week.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
