The Environmental Health Lab at Georgia Aquarium monitors air, water, and light quality across various animal habitats. This internship provides hands-on experience with laboratory procedures, equipment maintenance, and data analysis. It is designed for students in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or Biology who are interested in pursuing careers in environmental science or related fields.
What you'll do#
- Perform laboratory tests on water samples to measure parameters including pH, salinity, alkalinity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate.
- Conduct bacteriological tests, interpret results, identify trends, and report non-compliance issues.
- Operate and calibrate laboratory and field equipment, such as pH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen probes.
- Assist with specialized testing, including HPLC, IC, light, and air analysis.
- Record, organize, and analyze laboratory data.
What you'll need#
- Successful completion of a general chemistry course, including a school laboratory component.
- Basic knowledge of water quality parameters, analytical techniques, and laboratory equipment operation.
- A genuine passion for the environment and a strong interest in science and animal welfare.
