About the role#
This internship focuses on improving the Quality of Experience (QoE) for connected vehicle infotainment applications. You will work on system architecture and optimization mechanisms to maintain service quality despite the fluctuations of cellular networks. The role involves co-designing systems between the vehicle and the cloud to ensure consistent performance for users.
What you'll do#
- Analyze the current status of cellular networks, including deployment and communication performance.
- Design algorithms to address QoE degradation, focusing on latency reduction, service continuity, and service smoothness.
- Develop end-to-end system designs for vehicles and cloud or edge infrastructure.
- Implement and test systems in GM test vehicles to demonstrate the effectiveness of your designs.
- Evaluate system performance using a data-driven approach across various test scenarios.
- Document findings and proactively identify solutions to research challenges.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master or PhD program, with a preference for PhD candidates.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) during the summer of 2027.
- Background in mobile networks, wireless communications, and Cloud/Edge computing, specifically with 4G, 5G, or 6G standards.
- Experience with data-intensive applications like video streaming and tools such as Gstreamer or ffmpeg.
- Proficiency in C++, C#, Java, Kotlin, or Python.
- Understanding of multithreading programming, real-time system development, and end-to-end system optimization.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently while communicating effectively with team members.
Location & details#
