About the role#
General Motors is looking for Industrial Design interns to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work within our Industrial Design organization, supporting either Brand ID and Product Design or Colors, Materials, and Finish (CMF) projects. This role is based at the GM Design Center in Warren, Michigan, and requires full-time, on-site attendance. Please note that GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this position.
What you'll do#
- Explore ideas that enhance the design, identity, and customer experience of future vehicles.
- Research trends, materials, technologies, and user perspectives to inform design concepts.
- Develop and communicate concepts through sketches, visual studies, samples, models, and prototypes.
- Translate creative ideas into thoughtful applications across vehicle surfaces, accessories, and experiences.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, suppliers, and other partners to refine and realize concepts.
- Present work, receive feedback, and iterate designs throughout the development process.
What you'll need#
- Pursuit of a bachelor's or BFA degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Interior Design, Graphic Design, CMF, or a related creative discipline.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2029.
- Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer months.
- Knowledge of AI programs such as Vizcom and Midjourney.
- Proficiency in VRED, Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), Alias, and Blender.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A trend-savvy approach with cultural awareness.
- Dependability.
- A portfolio submission is required for consideration.
