About the role#
The Accounting Intern role at GEA Group is a part-time position based in Columbia, Maryland. This role is a rolling opportunity that provides exposure to core financial processes within an industrial machinery manufacturing environment. You will work on-site and participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
What you'll do#
- Prepare journal entries and gather supporting documentation.
- Support balance sheet reconciliations and investigate items that do not match.
- Help organize data for month-end close activities.
- Prepare account analyses and financial reports.
- Assist with intercompany reconciliation and data validation.
- Support reporting for inventory, overhead, and operational finance.
- Maintain accurate financial records through data entry.
- Assist with tax and statutory reporting tasks.
- Identify data discrepancies and escalate issues.
- Contribute to special projects, process improvements, and ad hoc analyses.
- Apply accounting policies and internal controls to daily tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Junior or Senior standing is preferred.
- A basic grasp of accounting principles and financial statements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with ERP systems, Power BI, Dynamics, or SAP is helpful but not required.
- Prior internships, campus leadership, or relevant project experience is a plus.
