About the role#
The Arthur D. Hellman Fellowship is a 10-week summer program for law students. You will work in either the Philadelphia or Washington, D.C. office from June 1, 2027, to August 6, 2027. This is a paid position with an $8,000 stipend. Fellows join our team to support litigation that defends free speech, expression, and thought.
What you'll do#
- Work directly with First Amendment litigators on active cases.
- Perform legal research and writing tasks.
- Engage with clients and assist with media relations.
- Contribute to our strategic litigation efforts.
What you'll need#
- You must be a rising 2L or 3L law student.
- Excellent academic credentials.
- A commitment to civil liberties and public-interest litigation.
- A deep interest in the principles of free expression.
- A collaborative and detail-oriented approach to your work.

- This is a full-time, on-site role.
- Locations: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or Washington, District of Columbia.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States is required.
