About the role#
Peer Tutors support the academic mission of Florida Memorial University by helping fellow students master course material. You will work within the Center for Academic Resources and Support to provide tutoring, manage the Skills Lab, and ensure a productive learning environment. This is a paid, on-site position that requires collaboration with the DASS team.
What you'll do#
- Tutor students in your subject areas and review class material to help them develop problem-solving strategies.
- Use positive reinforcement to build student confidence and motivation.
- Assess student progress during tutoring sessions.
- Assist Skills Lab users with questions and provide guidance on applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Maintain the security, cleanliness, and organization of the Skills Lab.
- Monitor lab inventory and report hardware or software issues to the IT Helpdesk.
- Attend all required training sessions, meetings, and orientations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at Florida Memorial University with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well in teams and speak effectively in front of groups.
- A patient, friendly, and courteous demeanor when working with students, faculty, and staff.
- Capacity to handle sensitive information professionally.
- Effective analytical and decision-making skills.
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity, including standing or walking for more than four hours per day and lifting objects up to fifty pounds.
- A recommendation from an FMU professor is preferred.
