About the role#
Lead Resident Assistants (LRA) serve in a live-in position to support the day-to-day operations of residence halls. This role focuses on developing a living and learning environment for residents and student staff. The position requires 15-20 hours per week, with a schedule that varies to include nights, weekends, and duty rotations.
What you'll do#
- Create a welcoming environment for 35-60 residents.
- Work with campus partners to implement the residential curricular model.
- Serve as an advocate for residents and report concerns to supervisors.
- Follow and enforce university and department policies.
- Manage administrative tasks and hold office hours in the residence hall.
- Conduct check-in meetings with resident assistants and assist in hall opening and closing procedures.
- Mediate conflicts between staff and residents.
- Co-facilitate staff meetings and team development activities.
- Serve on the RA-level duty rotation.
- Assist in onboarding and training new hall staff.
- Support hall council meetings and encourage resident involvement.
What you'll need#
- Must have lived on-campus at a college institution for at least one semester.
- Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at FIU.
- Undergraduate students must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA; graduate students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Must be in good standing with the university and department with no significant recent student conduct history.
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience working as a Resident Assistant.
- Awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of your Financial Aid package.
- A positive, caring, and helpful attitude.
- Strong time management, confrontation, and leadership skills.
- An appreciation for diversity and experience working with multicultural student populations.

- Location: Modesto A. Maidique Campus, Miami, Florida.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Pay: $18.00 per hour.
- This is a temporary, part-time position requiring on-campus residency.
