About the role#
First Student is looking for a motivated HR and Marketing Communications Intern to join our team. This role supports employee experience, retention, and engagement initiatives. You will work closely with HR and communications partners to help connect and celebrate our teams. This is a paid, part-time position that offers hands-on experience in a large, service-focused organization.
What you'll do#
- Support HR programs, events, and meetings by managing project timelines and follow-up activities.
- Prepare employee-facing resources such as guides, FAQs, toolkits, and communications.
- Research HR best practices and employee engagement trends.
- Organize survey feedback, participation data, and recognition updates to support program improvements.
- Maintain project files, trackers, and documentation.
- Draft, edit, and proofread internal communications like newsletters and leader messages.
- Develop content for digital channels, presentations, and campaigns.
- Partner with team members to shape key messages for employee audiences.
- Provide basic design support for flyers, one-pagers, and PowerPoint slides.
- Track communication requests, deadlines, and distribution needs.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business, or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Experience with Canva or similar design tools is a plus.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- A creative, curious, and dependable mindset.
- Ability to handle sensitive information professionally and maintain confidentiality.
- A positive attitude and a service-oriented approach to employee engagement.
- English proficiency is required for all business and safety communications.
Location & details#
- This role is based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
- The position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring some time in the office for collaboration and meetings.
- This is a part-time, paid internship at $20 per hour.
