Dental Assistant Extern

About the role#

The Dental Assistant Extern provides support to the dental department as a volunteer. This role offers the opportunity to gain knowledge of community health care through exposure to the Family Health Centers of San Diego community health model while assisting team members in maintaining an efficient department.

What you'll do#

• Perform volunteer duties as assigned, within the scope of the assignment, under direct supervision.
• Provide support to an assigned department.
• Assist team members to maintain an efficient Dental Department.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in an accredited school for dental assistant certification or degree.
• Interest in the mission of Family Health Centers of San Diego.
• Intermediate interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural, and economic groups.
• Ability to work well both independently and in a team-based environment.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Fluency in Spanish, English, or Arabic is desired.
• Licensure may be required for specific volunteer assignments.

• Locations: Multiple sites across San Diego, California, including Gateway, Hillcrest FHC-Annex, Diamond Neighborhoods, Grossmont Spring Valley, and North Park.
• Modality: On-site.
• Term: Rolling.
