The Lab/TAC Network Engineer Intern will join the Services Lab Operations team to gain hands-on experience with routing and switching protocols using multi-layer Ethernet switches. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and troubleshooting networks while preparing for future positions as a Technical Support Engineer or Network Engineer.
What you'll do#
- Learn Extreme Networks products, routing and switching protocols, and lab operations.
- Setup networking equipment to support Technical Support Engineers (TSEs) with customer support tasks.
- Partner with TSEs to replicate customer network issues involving software, hardware, and configuration.
- Perform physical lab operations including racking, cabling, troubleshooting, and equipment management.
- Document work activities, adhere to Service Level Agreements, and improve lab processes.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic networking knowledge, including Ethernet, TCP/IP, the OSI model, and routing and switching.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in a service-oriented position.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and collaboratively within a team.
- Technical aptitude and critical thinking skills to solve problems.
- Experience with Windows and Linux is preferred, along with knowledge of servers, virtualization, and scripting languages.
