    About the role#

    Epic Games is hiring an Engine Programmer Intern for the 2027 season. You will join the Fortnite Online team to support core systems and features for both Fortnite and Unreal Engine. This position offers hands-on experience with high expectations for performance and code quality.

    What you'll do#

    • Architect, develop, and maintain shared online gameplay technology with the Fortnite Online team.
    • Build online systems and toolsets for Unreal Engine licensees.
    • Create online features and services used by Fortnite and other Epic games.
    • Manage technical challenges from the initial concept through to final shipped code.
    • Ensure all code remains stable for players after release.

    What you'll need#

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in C++ and object-oriented programming, with familiarity in Java.
    • Knowledge of networking, REST, and resilient back-end services.
    • Interest in online multiplayer games and games as a service.
    • Familiarity with Unreal Engine or UEFN.
    • A technical portfolio showing student, internship, or game development work.
    • Experience using AI and LLMs for code and tooling development.

    Location & details#

    • This is an on-site role based in Cary, North Carolina.
    • The internship is full-time and paid.
    • Start dates are flexible throughout 2027.
    • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
