About the role#
The Environmental Working Group is seeking a communications intern for the Fall 2026 term. This is a paid, part-time position based in Washington, DC. You will work with our communications staff to support advocacy projects related to food chemicals, industrial chemicals like PFAS, and pesticide regulation. This role offers hands-on experience in media outreach and science communication within a nonprofit setting.
What you'll do#
- Track and summarize media coverage while compiling quotes that cite our work.
- Research media outlets and reporters to identify coverage opportunities.
- Write articles for our website and draft social media content for BlueSky and X.
- Monitor environmental topics and social media trends.
- Provide support for press events, both in person in DC and via virtual briefings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student with at least one year of completed coursework and good academic standing.
- A major in communications, journalism, media studies, or a related field.
- Strong writing skills and experience working on deadlines, such as through school publications, broadcast teams, or prior internships.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and pay close attention to detail.
- Familiarity with Google Docs and Google Sheets.
- An interest in environmental issues, public health, or mission-driven advocacy.
- Willingness to learn new tools, including online media databases.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC.
- Staff work in the office 2-3 days per week.
- The role is part-time with flexible hours.
- Compensation is $20 per hour.
