About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship based in Aurora, Illinois. You will work alongside our consultants to support forensic investigations and failure analysis projects. The role involves a mix of office work, laboratory tasks, and field inspections. You will gain exposure to complex technical challenges across various industries.
What you'll do#
- Support consultants during forensic inspections at both site and laboratory locations.
- Assist with file reviews and the preparation of technical reports.
- Document artifacts and evidence using photography, videography, dimensional measurements, and detailed notes.
- Work in the materials laboratory to learn and operate characterization equipment and microscopes, eventually running these tools independently to report findings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor degree program for chemistry, chemical engineering, materials engineering, materials science, or a related field.
- Completion of at least your freshman year of college.
- A GPA of 3.30 or higher is preferred.
- Academic background in laboratory sciences and investigative methods.
- Hands-on experience with microscopy, photography, wet chemistry, and chemical analysis instrumentation.
- Familiarity with data analysis and materials testing methods.
- A valid driver license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel for trips lasting up to three days.
- Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally, as well as work in varied environments like industrial sites or damaged structures.
Location & details#
- Location: Aurora, Illinois.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. If enrolled in classes, you must work at least 32 hours per week and take no more than two courses.
