About the role#
As a Software Engineering Intern at Emergent, you will build and ship production systems that serve users globally. You will work alongside experienced engineers across our infrastructure, AI/ML, and product teams. This role involves taking ownership of projects from initial design through to production deployment while learning the core principles of distributed systems, scalability, and reliability.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain backend services using Python or Go.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, AI/ML, and product teams.
- Contribute to production systems that serve a global user base.
- Learn to apply principles of distributed systems, performance, and reliability.
- Participate in the full development lifecycle, including code reviews, debugging, testing, and deployment.
- Own meaningful projects from start to finish.
What you'll need#
- Recent graduation from a Computer Science program.
- A strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and computer science fundamentals.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language like Python, Go, or Java.
- Hands-on experience gained through internships, academic projects, hackathons, or open-source work.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to work in an environment that requires high ownership.
- Exposure to cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, or distributed systems is preferred.
- Experience building backend applications, APIs, or developer tools is preferred.
- Interest in AI, developer infrastructure, or large-scale systems is a plus.
