About the role#
The Engineering Intern provides day-to-day support to maintain workflow between the LR and MX teams. This position focuses on preparing technical materials, verifying dimensions, and ensuring designers have the necessary information to keep projects moving. This is a temporary, part-time role intended to support business continuity.
What you'll do#
- Maintain organized records and report workflow risks or missing information to engineering contacts.
- Provide technical support to LR designers to resolve questions and prevent delays.
- Coordinate drawings, parts, and measurements for the MX team.
- Review prints for completeness before handoff.
- Prepare parts, covers, and materials for shipment to MX or St. Louis.
- Support design revisions and alterations.
- Perform Mylar checks and verify dimensions against technical requirements.
- Prepare 3D prints for engineering review.
- Create PIP documentation and cross-sections for product evaluation.
- Scan parts and prepare scan data for design activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Automotive Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Design, or a related technical field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify inconsistent technical information.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and follow safety and engineering procedures.
- Ability to organize multiple priorities and escalate blockers.
- Basic familiarity with CAD, 3D scanning, 3D printing, or dimensional inspection is helpful.
- Coursework or experience with engineering drawings and technical documentation is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, paid internship.
- Locations: Southfield, Michigan or Skokie, Illinois.
- Expected hours: 20-30 hours per week, with potential for up to 40 hours based on business needs.
