The Advanced Technology Group (ATG) at Dolby is seeking a PhD Research Intern to join the Foundational AI lab for the Fall 2026 term. This role focuses on applying large-scale models to spatial audio, HDR imaging/video, and high pixel depth imaging/video generation and representation learning. You will work with state-of-the-art computing resources and proprietary datasets to push the boundaries of media technology.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement novel neural architectures for processing enhanced media formats.
- Develop training methodologies for foundation models capable of understanding and generating high-fidelity audio-visual content.
- Research techniques for efficient fine-tuning of large models for specific applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into the product ecosystem.
- Present research findings to internal stakeholders and at academic conferences.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Computational Media, or a related field.
- Demonstrable proficiency in training and fine-tuning large models, such as transformers, diffusion models, or autoregressive models.
- Solid understanding of deep learning fundamentals and experience with PyTorch.
- Excellent programming skills in Python.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- A strong background in imaging, video, or audio modeling is required.

- Location: Atlanta, GA.
- Term: Fall 2026 (12 weeks, September 21, 2026 – December 2026).
- Modality: On-site, full-time (Monday – Friday).
- Compensation: $53/hr.
