About the role#
DISA Technologies develops High Pressure Slurry Attrition mineral processing technology. We have accumulated a large body of test data from years of lab, pilot, and field testing. This includes feed characterization, particle size, chemistry, and process performance. This data is spread across many projects, sites, and file formats. You will work with the ML Engineer to consolidate this historical test data. Your goal is to create a governed, catalogued set of clean data files ready for our cloud data platform.
What you'll do#
- Build a complete inventory of historical data sources, including location, client, project, site, equipment unit, date range, and format.
- Write a short format specification for common record types with example files.
- Transcribe test files into a consistent tabular template and save them to a staging area.
- Produce a data quality report covering gaps, incomplete analyses, and contradictions.
- Perform exploratory data analysis to identify candidate correlations across datasets.
- Write short feasibility memos on which questions the historical data can support.
- Apply file naming and tagging conventions to legacy folders.
- Prepare metadata for a document-system migration.
- Cross-reference test records against related measurement datasets.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a program in computer science, data science, statistics, or engineering.
- Proficiency with Python and pandas for reading, cleaning, and reshaping tabular data.
- Experience working with messy real-world files such as Excel workbooks, CSVs, and PDFs with inconsistent structure.
- A careful and methodical approach to documenting findings.
- Ability to work independently from a defined schema and templates.
- Clear written communication skills.
- Exposure to SQL, data catalogs, or data lake concepts is helpful.
- Basic statistics or EDA experience using matplotlib, seaborn, or Jupyter.
- Interest in mineral processing, chemistry, or industrial process data.
- Familiarity with SharePoint or OneDrive at a power-user level.
Location & details#
- Location: Casper, Wyoming.
- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Employment Type: Full-time, temporary.
- Status: Paid internship.
- Note: We provide a managed laptop or virtual desktop. This role involves handling confidential client data and requires signing a confidentiality acknowledgment.
