About the role#
As an Outpatient Pharmacy Intern (P1), you will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to learn and practice essential operational and clinical skills. This position is designed for students currently enrolled in an accredited School of Pharmacy who want to gain hands-on experience in a hospital setting. You will perform pharmacy-related functions that support the safe and effective use of medications for our patients.
What you'll do#
- Fill and deliver medications under pharmacist supervision.
- Compound medications for outpatient sales or delivery to patient care areas.
- Handle and triage inquiries received by phone or at the pharmacy window.
- Coordinate insurance billing, including third-party prescriptions.
- Process patient information using designated pharmacy systems.
- Maintain adequate supply levels to ensure continuous patient care.
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, nurses, and providers to improve patient outcomes.
- Ensure quality assurance standards are met according to legal and departmental requirements.
- Triage and escalate any issues outside your scope of practice to a staff pharmacist or supervisor.
- Participate in departmental meetings, huddles, in-services, and training sessions.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Active enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy.
- One of the following licenses from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA): Pharmacy Intern (PHARMIN), Licensed Pharmacy Technician (PHAT), or Provisional Pharmacy Technician (PHATP).
- Knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures.
- Strong mathematical computation, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member with high attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, are preferred.
