About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gaining hands-on experience with store, district, and regional operations. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist by integrating you into the pharmacy team and daily workflow.
What you'll do#
- Support pharmacy operations to ensure prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly.
- Follow standard operating procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Assist patients by fielding medical questions, taking telephonic prescriptions, and soliciting medical history information under pharmacist supervision.
- Deliver patient services such as immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted by law.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions.
- Complete inventory tasks such as cycle counts, returns, and stocking deliveries.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team members as you gain experience.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- At least 1 year of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to travel to other store locations within the market as needed.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong focus, attention to detail, and the ability to pivot between tasks quickly.
- Mathematical skills to solve problems related to prescription dispensing.
