About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining hands-on experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist while supporting the pharmacy team in delivering safe and accurate patient care.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and providing compassionate care.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and collect medical history under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and call to clarify or facilitate medication changes.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Perform inventory tasks such as putting away deliveries, cycle counts, and returns-to-stock.
- Educate patients on vaccines, monitor for adverse reactions, and document patient information.
- Complete training and licensure requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
- Remain flexible with scheduling, including working nights and weekends.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- At least 1 year of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks and pivot quickly between different responsibilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to use active listening.
- Mathematical skills for calculating medication dosages and supplies.
- Ability to work in your home store and travel to other locations within the market.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks like typing and reaching.
