About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap. This role focuses on preparing you for a future Pharmacist position by providing an overview of store, district, and regional operations. You will support the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and patients receive their prescriptions safely and accurately.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap, including key learning experiences and activities.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation, such as production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Assist with patient care by offering to counsel, fielding medical questions, and soliciting information on medical history.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Support immunizations by preparing and administering vaccines, educating patients, and monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Perform basic inventory activities, including cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and putting away medication deliveries.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members as you gain experience.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, professional standards, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- At least 1 year of work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work at your home store and travel to other locations within the market.
