About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap. This role provides hands-on experience and an overview of store, district, and regional operations as you prepare for a future Pharmacist role.
What you'll do#
- Support pharmacy teams to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service and contribute to a safe, inclusive culture.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and solicit medical history under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and clarify details with prescribers.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities like cycle counts and medication deliveries.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations, once you obtain the required training and licensure.
- Educate patients on vaccines and monitor for adverse reactions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- At least 1 year of work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and communication skills.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly between responsibilities, and identify the best course of action during challenging interactions.
