About the role#
As a 3rd year Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your didactic learning from pharmacy school into real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy teams to ensure safe and accurate prescription fulfillment while developing your skills for future responsibilities as a pharmacist.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and providing compassionate care.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and solicit medical history under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and contact prescribers to clarify orders or facilitate medication changes.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete inventory activities like cycle counts, returns, and putting away deliveries.
- Deliver patient health care services including immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted.
- Educate patients on vaccines, monitor for adverse reactions, and document patient information.
- Remain flexible with scheduling and travel to other store locations within the market as needed.
What you'll need#
- Acceptance into or active enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Possession of, or in the process of obtaining, valid intern or technician licensure.
- Ability to work regular and predictable hours, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and the ability to use math to solve prescription-related problems.
- Strong communication skills, including active listening and the ability to explain information clearly.
- Ability to pivot between tasks, maintain focus, and confirm label accuracy.
- Physical ability to remain upright for long periods, lift up to 20 lbs, reach, and stoop.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Preferred: Ability to become immunization certified.
