About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a comprehensive training roadmap designed to prepare you for a future Pharmacist role. You will gain exposure to store, district, and regional operations while supporting the pharmacy team in delivering patient care.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap and key learning experiences.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly, including prescription fulfillment at production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off stations.
- Follow company standard operating procedures and pharmacy workflow protocols.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and providing compassionate care.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and solicit information on medical history under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and contact prescribers to clarify orders or facilitate medication changes.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities such as putting away deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Support immunizations by educating patients, reviewing information, and monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by the state.
- Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Strong focus and the ability to pivot quickly between tasks while maintaining prescription accuracy.
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication, including active listening.
- Mathematical skills to solve problems related to prescription dispensing.
- Ability to identify challenging interactions and choose effective resolutions.
- Physical capability to remain mobile and upright for extended periods, reach overhead, stoop, and perform repetitive finger movements.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and 10 lbs frequently.
