About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining hands-on experience in store and district operations. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy teams, ensuring smooth operations, and delivering patient care while you prepare for future pharmacist responsibilities.
What you'll do#
- Follow all company standard operating procedures and pharmacy workflow protocols at every workstation, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, offering immunizations, and resolving concerns.
- Field medical questions and offer counseling under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Handle telephonic prescriptions and coordinate with prescribers to clarify or change medication orders.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete inventory tasks like cycle counts, returns, and processing deliveries.
- Deliver health services including immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted.
- Educate patients on vaccines, monitor for adverse reactions, and document patient information.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and travel to other store locations within the market as needed.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
- 1+ years of experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong focus, attention to detail, and mathematical reasoning skills.
- Effective communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to pivot between tasks and resolve challenging interactions.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks like typing or reaching.
