About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world pharmacy operations. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist while supporting the pharmacy team in delivering safe and accurate patient care.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide patient care by offering to counsel, fielding medical questions, and taking telephonic prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
- Communicate with prescribers to clarify prescriptions or facilitate medication changes.
- Deliver health care services such as immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law and supported by training.
- Support immunization services by educating patients, monitoring for adverse reactions, and documenting patient information.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities like cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and processing medication deliveries.
- Contribute to a positive patient experience by demonstrating empathy and addressing patient needs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in mathematical reasoning to solve problems like calculating day supply or medication quantities.
- Strong attention and focus to ensure prescription accuracy and patient safety.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to customer service.
- Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
- Capability to perform physical tasks such as standing for extended periods, reaching, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
