About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a training roadmap designed to build your skills in pharmacy operations. You will gain experience across store, district, and regional levels while preparing for future responsibilities as a pharmacist.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap including Key Learning Experiences.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly, including filling prescriptions promptly, safely, and accurately.
- Provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations and demonstrate empathy in all interactions.
- Follow company Standard Operating Procedures and pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation.
- Offer to counsel, field medical questions, and take telephonic prescriptions.
- Call prescribers to clarify prescriptions or facilitate medication changes.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and training to team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities such as putting away deliveries and cycle counts.
- Travel to stores in the market to work shifts as needed.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and privacy requirements.
- Deliver patient health care services, including supporting immunizations, monitoring for adverse reactions, and educating patients.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required.
- Ability to work a schedule that includes nights and weekends.
- Capacity to concentrate on tasks for extended periods and pivot quickly between responsibilities.
- Proficiency in using math to solve problems, such as calculating prescription dosages.
- Ability to identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, reach overhead, stoop, and perform repetitive finger movements.
- Close visual acuity for reading labels and viewing computer terminals.
- Ability to lift, scan, and bag items, including occasionally lifting up to 20 lbs.
