About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world pharmacy operations. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap designed to prepare you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. This role involves gaining hands-on experience across store, district, and regional operations while supporting the pharmacy team in delivering safe and accurate patient care.
What you'll do#
- Follow all company standard operating procedures and pharmacy workflow protocols at every workstation, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide empathetic patient care by addressing medical questions, soliciting health history information, and offering counseling under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Handle telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify orders as needed.
- Support the team by providing in-the-moment coaching and mentoring.
- Perform inventory tasks such as processing medication deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Deliver patient health services including immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted by law.
- Educate patients on vaccines, monitor for adverse reactions, and document patient information.
- Travel to other stores within the market to support shifts as business needs require.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- At least 1 year of work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure prescription accuracy and the ability to pivot between tasks quickly.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
- Mathematical reasoning skills to calculate dosages and supply needs.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks like reaching, bending, and typing.
