About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining experience in pharmacy operations while preparing for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. This role involves supporting pharmacy teams to ensure patient prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
What you'll do#
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at workstations including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly.
- Provide service that exceeds patient expectations by showing empathy and solving patient problems.
- Offer to counsel, field medical questions, and solicit medical history information under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Provide coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities such as putting away deliveries and performing cycle counts.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where allowed by law.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse immunization reactions while tracking and documenting patient information.
What you'll need#
- Accepted into, or actively enrolled in, an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by state regulations.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service is preferred.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
