About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap that covers pharmacy operations. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist by immersing you in daily pharmacy workflows and clinical tasks.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap to build clinical and operational skills.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Follow company procedures and standard operating procedures at every workstation.
- Provide service to patients, including offering counseling and fielding medical questions under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication orders.
- Support immunization services by preparing and administering vaccines, educating patients, and monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Perform inventory tasks such as putting away deliveries, cycle counts, and managing returns.
- Provide coaching and training to pharmacy team members as you gain experience.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by the state.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in active listening and verbal communication to assist patients and colleagues.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations for prescription dispensing.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure label accuracy and patient safety.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, reach overhead, stoop, and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to pivot between tasks quickly to meet patient needs.
