About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gaining experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on preparing you for future responsibilities as a Pharmacist while supporting the daily needs of the pharmacy team.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap focusing on Key Learning Experiences.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service to patients and contribute to positive experiences through empathy.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and solicit medical history information under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and contact prescribers to clarify orders or facilitate medication changes.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Perform basic inventory activities, such as putting away deliveries and completing cycle counts.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, upon completing required training and licensure.
- Educate patients on vaccines and monitor for potential adverse reactions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, professional standards, and company policies.
- Travel to other stores in the market to work shifts as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by state regulations.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Capacity to concentrate on tasks and pivot quickly between responsibilities.
- Proficiency in using math to solve prescription-related problems.
- Strong problem-solving skills for patient and colleague interactions.
- Ability to remain mobile and upright for extended periods.
- Physical capability to lift, scan, and bag items, reach overhead, and perform repetitive finger movements.
- Close visual acuity for reading, transcribing, and inspecting small parts.
- 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings is preferred.
- Ability to become immunization certified is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite is preferred.
